Happy Holidays!!!

The holidays are quickly approaching and what does every woman need in her closet a LBD...yes that's right! The Little Black Dress...I decided I needed a LONG Black Dress. This dress would be perfect for a holiday party or for a date. When this pattern landed on my sewing table,  I could not wait to make this little number. It fits amazingly and was a very easy sew. Check out my review below...

Pattern Review: Simplicity 8045 Women’s Knit Dress in 2 lengths

Did it look like the photo on the pattern envelope once you were done: Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow: The easiest I’ve come across in a very long time.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern: I loved how quick it was to sew up and how flattering it is on my body

Fabric Used: a textured black ponte

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I pretty much kept every thing the same except I didn’t add the elastic for the rucshing

Would you sew it again:  Yes I would…I can’t wait to make the shorter length and more longer versions.
                                                                     .
Would you recommend it to others: Most certainly!!! 2 thumbs up!

Until next time my loves,
Keep it Sassy, Classy, Sexy, Period.
See you Friday!!

How Sewing helped me with Body Shame...

I'm not the average girl from the videos And I aint built like a supermodel But I learned to love myself unconditionally Because I am a queen...India Arie I wanted to do something a little different today and that’s start a dialog… It’s always amazing to me how the things that come out of people’s mouths require a preface…like *WARNING: WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY IS UTTER NONSENSE* Now it’s no secret that I’m a curvy woman…been like that my whole life…it’s in my family’s genes! What can I say? Thanks Grandma!! Now while I made a little joke…the things I’ve heard over the years and most recently have left me a little disheartened… “Girl, why are you working here? You should be a stripper/dancer” “With a body like that I would be in videos” “Now you know YOU need a blazer on with that dress!” “Looks like you are hiding a Smurf under that dress!” “You look like Barney today!” “Your outfit is too much today!” “You are too big for that!” ...

Open Letter to Mimi Goodwin & #MiMicItMonday

So on the beginning of my first week of blogging, I decided to pen an open letter to my mentor Mimi Goodwin... Dear Mimi, I had no idea that when I bought my sewing machine in 2011 what exactly I was gonna do with it, (that machine would go on to sit in the box for almost 2 years). In early July 2013, I discovered your blog on a friend's Facebook page, little did I know that this one click would change my life forever! I was headed toward a transition that I didn't see coming, my wedding engagement was coming to an end and it devastated me and  I felt lost. I knew I needed something to take my mind off of the pain I was feeling. I was headed in a downward spiral and no one knew it but me, and you Mimi Goodwin saved me from myself. So after I tried and SUCCESSFULLY completed 3 of your tutorials on the first try, I knew I had found my therapy. You were and still are always so kind, answering inbox questions without hesitation, offering help whenever I asked. You will never...
