Santa Baby/MiMicItMonday Featuring:GarnerStyle

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...who am I kidding?Today is the first day of Winter and  Christmas is only a few days away and it looks and feels nothing like it. So I had to improvise. Last week I posted that every woman needs a LBD in her closet, now I have a new piece to add to that collection: a tulle skirt! I personally didn't think they would work on me...I made one prior to this and wasn't that fond of it. When I came across this tulle at Walmart I decided to give it another go. What really encouraged me to take another stab at it was my MiMicItMonday guest today GarnerStyle! I started following her earlier this year and she is amazing! The confidence she exudes in every single post and piece is encouraging to curvy girls everywhere. She will definitely make another appearance on MIM. When I saw her holiday look post a couple of weeks ago...I knew it would be perfect for MiMicItMonday. What say you? You guys think Santa may need a Sassy, Classy, Sexy, he

One Fabric Two Looks!! #FunFabricFriday

Well it's Friday and we are right around the corner from Christmas and the New Year! The weather we have been having has been great, and when I stumbled upon this gorgeous honey mustard double knit fabric and knew I could rock this before the fall came to an end. I thought a little out of the box with this and I am glad that I did.  One of my most favorite things to do when it comes to sewing is frankenpatterning. What is that you may ask? It's when you piece together different parts of different patterns to create a completely different look. I am very happy with both of the looks I created here with this yummy comfortable fabric.  First look is a combination of Mimi G Simplicity 1283 (top) and McCalls 6760 (pants only). I love these pants...I've used them several times and wasn't quite sure how they would work with this bodice but I love the final outcome. I paired this jumper with a Mimi G cocoon sweater made out of what else but pink sequin and of course the lo

Happy Holidays!!!

The holidays are quickly approaching and what does every woman need in her closet a LBD...yes that's right! The Little Black Dress...I decided I needed a LONG Black Dress. This dress would be perfect for a holiday party or for a date. When this pattern landed on my sewing table,  I could not wait to make this little number. It fits amazingly and was a very easy sew. Check out my review below... Pattern Review : Simplicity 8045 Women’s Knit Dress in 2 lengths Did it look like the photo on the pattern envelope once you were done:  Yes Were the instructions easy to follow:  The easiest I’ve come across in a very long time. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern:  I loved how quick it was to sew up and how flattering it is on my body Fabric Used: a textured black ponte Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  I pretty much kept every thing the same except I didn’t add the elastic for the rucshing Would you sew it again:

My weekend with Melky Jean & #MiMicItMonday Featuring:Mimi G

My weekend with Melky Jean... What a weekend it was!!! I was able to reconnect with a high school alum and had the opportunity to showcase some of my designs and be a blessing to a group of young women in one felt swoop. I had the honor and privilege of being invited to participate in the Carma Foundation annual makeovers. It was my very first time in this of atmosphere and it was amazing. The young ladies got the royal treatment, from sew-ins, full make up, and 2-3 new outfits. I was surrounded by so many extremely talented women and got to see what it was like to be a stylist. As if that wasn't enough Melky gave me some encouraging words that she has no idea changed my life! Thanks again Melky for the opportunity! And I love that Tickled Pink Maxi on you! Check out a few pics below... Team Carma #MiMicItMonday:Featuring Mimi G I knew when I saw this look on Tieko and Mimi's blog...I had to have it! I used Mimi's Simplicity 1283 to create

How Sewing helped me with Body Shame...

I'm not the average girl from the videos And I aint built like a supermodel But I learned to love myself unconditionally Because I am a queen...India Arie I wanted to do something a little different today and that’s start a dialog… It’s always amazing to me how the things that come out of people’s mouths require a preface…like *WARNING: WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY IS UTTER NONSENSE* Now it’s no secret that I’m a curvy woman…been like that my whole life…it’s in my family’s genes! What can I say? Thanks Grandma!! Now while I made a little joke…the things I’ve heard over the years and most recently have left me a little disheartened… “Girl, why are you working here? You should be a stripper/dancer” “With a body like that I would be in videos” “Now you know YOU need a blazer on with that dress!” “Looks like you are hiding a Smurf under that dress!” “You look like Barney today!” “Your outfit is too much today!” “You are too big for that!”
