Rain Rain Go Away!!

Rain Rain Go Away
Come again another day
If you should decide to stay
I will just be be forced to Slay...

Well its been raining a little bit here and what better occasion than to make a raincoat! Who says you can't be Sassy, Classy, and Sexy in the rain? Well I say you can! I got inspired to make this coat when I visited my daughter at college on campus. I went in her bathroom and noticed the nicest shower curtain ever and immediately got an idea to make something out of it...first I thought Maxi Skirt, then I thought a raincoat would be a more feasible idea. So instead of diamonds today this Raincoat is a  girls best friend!! Below is my pattern review of McCalls 6442.

Pattern Review: McCalls 6442 Misses coat and belt

Did it look like the photo on the pattern envelope once you were done: For the most part yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow: Yes they were a little tedious though…lol

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern: I like the option of having a shorter or longer peplum, the hood and the pockets!

Fabric Used:A shower curtain!!!

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I used a ponte and smaller sleeve pattern for the sleeve. I also opted to do no facing and add snaps for closure instead of it being open

Would you sew it again: I’ve made this coat several times…so this might be going into retirement after I finish the other 2 I have cut out.

Would you recommend it to others: Yes I most certainly would!

PS: I ACTUALLY SHOT THESE IN THE RAIN...

 Until next time my loves...
and remember even in the rain...
Keep it Sassy, Classy, Sexy, Period.

  5. Lawana, I used to sew. I made all my maternity clothes during my first pregnancy 21 years ago. It was nothing for me to get up in the morning, not like what was in my closet and make an outfit to wear to work that day. The last thing I made was an outfit for my mother 11 years ago. I made it a few weeks before she died and she never got to wear it. Since then my machine has collected dust. You have inspired me to take it off the shelf and get back to something I love! I will call on you for support, and I will expect to get it. Do your thing Lawana, and know that you are already an inspiration! Love you for being you!

I'm a Survivor!!!!!

My hope for this blog is to be a beacon of light and hope for someone that doesn't think they can make it... YOU CAN!! I am far from where I want to be, but right where I need to be! I've been working really hard over the last few weeks to get this blog off the ground...and what better season than Fall, where the weather and fashion can change like the color of leaves... Leather & Pearls/Giveaway!!!!

This is a story about Control My Control Control of what I say Control of what I do And this time, I'm gonna do things my way I hope you enjoy this as much as I do Are we ready? I AM Cause it's all about Control and I've got Lots of it! -Janet Jackson A lot easier than said sometimes, when we allow things from our past to control our present and potentially our future you can spiral out of control. So in my case I sew to stay in control and nothing says in control like some leather honey!!! In this dress I felt all the things my blog stands for: Sassy Classy, Sexy, Period. I've had this pattern McCalls 7047 in my stash for quite some time, However when Mimi G did a tutorial for it, of course I had to have my own. I had tons of faux leather in my stash and couldn't wait to tackle it! I opted for no sleeves or peplum (peplums make your bottom look bigger and I don't need any help in that area...LOL) I also loved the train instead of the straight bottom.

Open Letter to Mimi Goodwin & #MiMicItMonday

So on the beginning of my first week of blogging, I decided to pen an open letter to my mentor Mimi Goodwin... Dear Mimi, I had no idea that when I bought my sewing machine in 2011 what exactly I was gonna do with it, (that machine would go on to sit in the box for almost 2 years). In early July 2013, I discovered your blog on a friend's Facebook page, little did I know that this one click would change my life forever! I was headed toward a transition that I didn't see coming, my wedding engagement was coming to an end and it devastated me and  I felt lost. I knew I needed something to take my mind off of the pain I was feeling. I was headed in a downward spiral and no one knew it but me, and you Mimi Goodwin saved me from myself. So after I tried and SUCCESSFULLY completed 3 of your tutorials on the first try, I knew I had found my therapy. You were and still are always so kind, answering inbox questions without hesitation, offering help whenever I asked. You will never
